What is Acro ?

Acrobatic gymnastics is both a sport and and a show; it is a combination of strength, statics elements such balances and holds, flexibility, dynamism and grace.  Accompanied by a musical score, it combines choreography, individual gymnastics elements, tumbling, throws and pyramids using the same floor as in artistic gymnastics.

It is the only gymnastics discipline carried out by team: women’s pair, men’s pair, mixed pair, women’s trio, men’s four.

This discipline developed in Europe during the fifties, as practiced by mainly the Bulgarians, the Polish and the Russians.  The first World Championships took place in Moscow in 1974.
Since 1993, Acro has been included in the World Games, a worldwide gathering of non-Olympic disciplines and, since 2015, in that event's Continental equivalent, the European Games.

ACRO was first presented at the Youth World Olympics in Buenos Aires in 2018.  It has since been promoted by the famous "Cirque du Soleil", its main showcase and partner in the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

THE GYMNASTS ARE REQUIRED TO PRESENT THE FOLLOWING TO THE JUDGES

01

02

ONE DYNAMIC EXERCISE

03

A panel of judges will confer a grade for execution, artistic merit and difficulties for each exercise that a formation presents, based on a tariff sheet presenting the chronological order of the elements.
